About the Instructor:
Artist Clay Walthall is a native of Petersburg, Virginia. He received a master’s degree in visual art from Radford University in 1982 and has completed additional studies at James Madison and Alfred University.
Walthall’s art production is devoted to pottery making and watercolor painting. His work is reflective of his rural roots. His watercolors capture the colors and tones of western Virginia and the barrier islands of North Carolina. His wood fired stoneware pottery is inspired by the landscape and the traditional forms and motifs of traditional Shenandoah Valley ware. He exhibits nationally, most recently at the Companion Gallery in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Walthall has taught art at the elementary, secondary, and college levels for more than thirty years. He is a working artist and an Adjunct Professor of Art at Laurel Ridge Community College. He is a member of the Education Advisory Board of the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Walthall works and resides in Timberville, Virginia.
